The MSG Secretariat received a courtesy visit from the President of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP), Mr Benny Wenda, whose delegation also included West Papua’s Special Envoy to Vanuatu, Mr Morris Kaloran, on 25 August 2026.Â
MSG Director General, Dr Anna Naupa, welcomed the visiting delegation and reaffirmed the Secretariat’s role as a platform for dialogue, cooperation, and meaningful engagement with Melanesian communities on shared values and priorities. She highlighted the importance of the Melanesian Way in fostering solidarity through regular people-to-people exchange between Melanesian peoples across the MSG region.
President Wenda welcomed the opportunity to meet with the Secretariat and shared the ULMWP’s perspectives on ongoing issues concerning human rights in West Papua. The meeting provided an opportunity for exchange of views and reaffirmed the Secretariat’s commitment to supporting constructive dialogue and collective approaches to promote peaceful, inclusive pathways to resolving issues affecting Melanesian communities, including those in West Papua.
The ULMWP has been an observer with MSG since 2015.
