Melanesian Spearhead Group Secretariat

Excelling together towards a progressive and prosperous Melanesia

The MSG Headquarters in Port Vila, Vanuatu

The MSG Secretariat in Port Vila was officially opened on 30 May 2008. The Secretariat is headed by the Director General, who is responsible for the implementation of Leaders’ mandates and for directing and coordinating policies within the framework of the MSG 2038 Prosperity For All Plan. The Governing Body of MSG consists of the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) which reports to the Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM). The MSG Secretariat comprises of the Executive arm,  the Director General, Deputy Director General, a Senior Executive Officer, and five programmes that are individually headed by a Programme Manager.

The MSG Secretariat opened its doors in May 2008 for business after years of operating on an ad-hoc basis. The opening signaled an exciting phase for the MSG group as it ventured into organising and managing its affairs in a more structured manner. The political will and leadership in arriving at this landmark event has been stable and Leaders have shown great courage to venture out. This new dimension on engagement with Pacific region and beyond will subsequently seek increased collaboration and regional economic integration among MSG members.
