FLNKS delegation with MSG

PORT VILA, VANUATU (5 May 2026): A delegation led by the President of the Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front (FLNKS) of New Caledonia, Christian Tein, paid a courtesy call to the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Secretariat office in Port Vila, Vanuatu this week.

Acting Director General of the MSG Secretariat, Ilan Kiloe, warmly welcomed the delegation to Port Vila and the MSG.

He expressed continued support for the FLNKS Decolonisation Road Map that was agreed to by Leaders in the MSG’s work programs and recalled an MSG Leader’s outcome to position an FLNKS Officer within the MSG Secretariat. Negotiations on the latter have so far been successful and the officer is expected to begin next month.

ADG Kiloe reaffirmed solidarity with the FLNKS and reiterated the support of the MSG Membership and its Secretariat, towards their legitimate cause for emancipation and decolonization, adding that this was one of the foundational reasons for the establishment of the MSG.

FLNKS has been a full Member of the MSG since 1988. The delegation was briefed by the full compliment of the MSG Secretariat and its Programme Managers.

President Tien acknowledged the support of the MSG to continue to advocate for FLNKS and assist in leveraging regional and international platforms in particular, the United Nations.

ADG Kiloe later accompanied President Tien to the Chief’s Nakamal where the delegation was accorded full traditional ceremonies and a custom welcome by the chiefs of Vanuatu.

The delegation is part of the New Caledonia Trade and Investment Mission under the theme “V.O.I.C.E 2030: Vanuatu Opportunities for Investment and Caledonian Enterprises through, Partnership,” with a strong focus on strengthening trade relations and opening new investment opportunities between Vanuatu and New Caledonia.
