The MSG Secretariat Director General Ambassador Amena Yauvoli and the MSG team met with members of International IDEA and guest speakers of the Women in Politics Forum to share ideas yesterday in Suva, Fiji prior to the Women in Politics Forum.
Speaking to Papua New Guinea’s Dame Carol Kidu, Solomon Island’s Afu Billy along with members of International IDEA and the organizing personnel for the Women in Politics Forum, Ambassador Yauvoli updated everyone on the current work programmes and activities of the MSG Secretariat.
On the broader issue of gender, Ambassador Yauvoli confirmed to the group that the MSG Secretariat was adding it’s voice to this issue and have had successful meetings with development partners over the last week regarding this and other issues, “The MSG Secretariat will be the vehicle to drive this process forward noting our backdrops in gender issues around violence against women, in terms of economic empowerment of women and women in leadership.”
He reiterated the importance of the MSG Secretariat doing more for the member states “We want to do more for our members and also connect these work in partnership with other stakeholders. It is important for us to not duplicate but to compliment our efforts.” He added the importance of issues being brought forward to the Secretariat and these activities that are happening with our partners can be reported to our leaders, because at the end of the day, “we are serving the same constituency and people of Melanesia.”
Further discussions remained fruitful with the group ending the day and preparing for the Women in Politics Forum which will be held at the Novotel Hotel in Lami today.
