MSG Regional Security Strategy Meeting underway in Nadi, Fiji

Ambassador Amena Yauvoli, Director General of the Melanesian Spearhead Group Secretariat addressed participants at the Regional Security Strategy Working Group Meeting on Monday in Nadi.
DG Yauvoli opened his statement by thanking Mr. Timoci Natuva, Chair of the Regional Security Strategy (RSS) Working Group for his work on the 1st and 2nd RSS Working Committee and his guidance, confirming that the RSS Working Group can be strong when everyone stands together reiterating that Security is a fundamental platform that binds us all together and also under the Agreement Establishing MSG, the first Pillar is Peace and Security.
“Globalisation and Trade liberation has opened borders and also have opened up threats and challenges and continue to influence our policies and decision makings. These can sometimes be beyond us, but we must stand together as a team to work together in our subregion to tackle these issues.” Ambassador Amena Yauvoli said.
The objectives for the RSS is to develop startegies for the next 5 to 10 years, accessing the emerging security environment taking into account the geopolitical in the world and how they affect security in the MSG region.
It is anticipated that following the 3rd RSS meeting, the RSS Working Group will undertake consultations to MSG Member countries to fine tune the Strategy and have it ready for the Police Commissioners Meeting (PCC) and the Police Ministers Meeting (PMM) and then to the Leaders for final endorsement.
The Chair of the RSS is Fiji, with Members comprising of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, FLNKS and Indonesia.
The RSS is coordinated under the Political and Security Affairs Programme in the MSG Secretariat headed by Ilan KIloe. The RSS Working Group Meeting will continue throughout the week finishing on Thursday 18 July 2019.
MSG delegates to the MSG RSS Meeting is headed by the Director General, Ambassador Amena Yauvoli, Ilan Kiloe Program Manager Political and Security Affairs, Epineri Seibouma – Peace and Security Officer and Christopher Waiwori – Senior Executive Officer.
