MSG Director General briefs current chairs of the MSG on upcoming Summit.

The Director-General of the Melanesian Spearhead Group, Mr. Amena Yauvoli today met the current Chairs of the MSG in Honiara. DG Yauvoli took the opportunity to brief the Chairs and discuss issues pertaining to the 21st MSG leaders meeting to be held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea from 10-15 February 2018. DG Yauvoli met the Chair of the Senior Officials members, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Peter Kenilorea, the Chair of the Foreign Ministers Meeting, Foreign Minister, Hon. Milner Tozaka and the Chair of the Leaders Summit, and Prime Minister, Hon. Rick Houenipwela. DG Yauvoli also updated the various Chairs’ on the progress of the meeting preparation including clarifying key agenda items that will be tabled at the meeting. The Director-General will be updating the leaders and governing members on the significant organisational reform undertaken by the Secretariat in the past year including key results and achievements.

Prime Minister Houenipwela, thanked the Director-General for the briefing and extended his appreciation for the work of the Secretariat in supporting the Chairmanship of the Solomon Islands. He also acknowledged the commitment of the Government of Papua New Guinea to host the 21st MSG Meeting next week.

All member states have confirmed their attendance and participation at the various meetings including the Senior Officials Meeting, the Foreign Ministers Meeting and the Leader’s summit.

Solomon Islands currently holds the chair of the Melanesia Spearhead Group and will be handing the chair to the government of Papua New Guinea at next week’s summit. DG Yauvoli was accompanied on this visit by the Program Managers for Political Affairs, Mr. Ilan Kiloe and Governance and Legal Affairs, Mr. Romulo Nayacalevu.
